Rug Cleaning in Kure Beach
Collection and delivery in Kure Beach are included. We take the rug back to the workshop, wash it properly, and bring it home.
What Kure Beach is built from
The quieter end of Pleasure Island, south of Carolina Beach and running down to Fort Fisher and the aquarium at the point. Small older beach cottages, a good deal of infill raised on pilings, and very little of the height that stands to the north.
More owner-occupied and more year-round than its neighbour, with families who have held the same cottage for decades and a smaller, steadier rental trade. These are working rugs in rooms people walk into straight off the sand.
The Kure Beach problem
What comes off a beach body is not only sand. Sunscreen is an oil-and-emulsifier system engineered to stay put on wet skin, insect repellent is a solvent, and aloe and self-tanner are sugars and dyes, and all of it transfers into a rug from feet, towels and the backs of legs. The oily fraction is the real problem, because it does not behave like a spot. It spreads as a thin film through the top of the pile and binds every grain of sand it meets, so an entire area goes flat, grey and faintly tacky without ever showing a stain, and vacuuming lifts none of it because the grit is glued in place. Two things follow. Repellent carrying DEET is an aggressive plasticiser that will soften and haze synthetic fibres and any coating over them, so a machine-made rug by a door can end up with a permanently dulled patch. And several sunscreen filters oxidise to a stubborn yellow-orange on white and cream wool if they are left in, which is a far harder thing to lift in October than it would have been in June.
If that sounds like your rug, send the form and describe what you are seeing. We will tell you whether it needs the full treatment or not.
